1) First, Introduce yourself, how old you are, where you 're from etc.I am 24 (22 by American standards) and I am from Seoul, South Korea
2) Which crew are you in at the moment and tell us about your crew?I am a member of Drifters Crew and Project Soul. Drifters Crew consists of members who have very distinct and vibrant personalities and individual styles. Our Crew is constantly improving and for a person who truly enjoys dancing such as me, it is the perfect fit. Personally, I believe that our crews individual personalities are not the only things distinct, but the personality and style of the Crew as a whole.
3) Most B-boys and B-Girls know you from BOTY 2002 with Expression Crew in Germany. Why did you leave this crew?I have been asked this question quite often, but it is nevertheless a very difficult question to answer. To put it simply, our visions and goals, as well as the mindset, was quite different. I learned a lot from the Expression Crew and was offered many opportunities, but I wanted to keep going and continue to improve, but such an opportunity was not available to me in the Expression Crew.
4) Why did you start B-Boying?At first, I started when I was just hanging out with my friends. When I first started dancing, the B-Boying scene was in its early stage, so it was difficult for me to learn how to dance. I basically watched the b-boys that came on TV or in videos and taught myself how to dance. So there really is no straight answer to this question. I simply wanted to dance and hang out with my friends.
5) Describe your style!My style is constantly changing, diverse, and I try to be as creative as I can. I still lack in all of these aspects, but I will continue to work hard until I can find the style that I ultimately want. I also want to develop a very diverse and creative style without deviating too much from B-Boying.
6) How would you describe the B-Boying Scene in South Korea at the moment?The B-Boying scene of Korea has developed greatly. It has been made known to a wider audience, and is still continuing to grow through various performances and through the media. However, I also see negative side-effects as B-Boying is becoming bigger in Korea. The showy aspect of B-Boying, conflicts between B-Boys are growing daily, and using anonymity provided by the internet to degrade fellow B-Boys, etc. are becoming continuously more prevalent. There are still lots of areas that we need to fix and develop, and the B-Boys of Korea, including myself, must continue to learn what the true meaning of being a B-Boy is. I would like to see B-Boys who are not only about improving their skills.
7) You travel a lot around and compete in many Battles. What has been the most enjoyable b-boying experience?There is a myriad of great experiences that I have had. UK was a lot of fun and my battles in Japan and Korea were all very fun and good experiences. If I were asked to distinguish one specific experience, however, I would say my most recent win at the RedBull BCOne is it. Of course, the reason being that I won.
8) How often do you practice a week?My goal is to practice everyday, but due to personal reasons and/or performances, that is a practical impossibility. Therefore, out of the week, I end up practicing 5-6 days.
9) Any advice on practice methods?Just enjoy yourself freely. I really dont like being tied down to something. Be free. Dance. Dancing to music itself is a great enjoyment. This is not practice, but the basic and essential element of B-Boying, no, of dancing.
10) What would you do when you can not dance anymore?I?????m not sure. I sometimes think about what I would do if I stopped dancing, but I have no plans of quitting dancing. Even if I can no longer dance due to age or injuries, I would want to continue to work in the B-Boying scene.
11) If you could go anywhere in this world, where would you go and why?Honestly, I would like to go everywhere. I want to revisit all of the places that I have been to. When I go abroad for tournaments, I don?????t really get to see the place and hang out. Also, of the places that I have not yet visited, I have a lot of places that I want to go to. I know this is sort of outrageous and out of the blue, but I want to visit places like the Arctic and the Antarctic.
12) Do you and your crew have any plans in future?I am going to continue to B-Boy. The style that I ultimately want to find will be difficult to achieve, but I am not going to stop trying. Myself and my team will continue to show the world better dances. We will probably enter many competitions, but our main goal is to show the world amazing performances. I hope you are all excited.
13) What do you think about BBoyworld?B-Boys who are geographically far away can get to know each other, share lots of materials and music, and B-Boys who are halfway around the world from each other can get close to each other as if they were practicing together through Bboyworld. Simply put, I like it.
